I have a couple vintage tenor banjos and a concert banjolele but this Gold Tone, for sound and playability, my favorite. I love the thing. It's worth the price even if it didn't have the great hard case. That put it over the top. It arrives with the bridge flat, so you have to set that, but it only takes a few minutes to do that & get intonation right. If you're used to steel strings, you'll find that nylons (especially the C) take a bit longer to settle in. Dealing with Instrument Alley was as good an experience as one could ask for.

I have been looking for a tenor banjolele, seems like there are a lot of soprano and concert ones but not so many tenors. I did a lot of comparison shopping and found Instrument Alley to have the best price. I'm very happy with the instrument but it takes a lot of tuning to get it right but I think that is just the nature of new ukulele strings. I have a tenor Fluke ukulele and it does the same thing when I put new strings on, it's not the tuners it's the strings. The tone is bright which is what I was looking for, not mellow like a traditional ukulele. I have the Fluke for the mellow tunes. I am basically a guitar player but I like to branch out and the ukulele is perfect because you use all your basic guitar chord shapes, you are just in a different key, and ukulele is just plain FUN. The product line it says open back and this is not the case, it is close backed. I'm very happy with the instrument and it came with a great hard shell case.
