I needed a neck for a flea market purchased banjo. I couldn't find an affordable vintage 5 string neck, so I took a chance and bought this basic Gold Tone neck. I'm happy with the purchase. The heel fits the 11" open back pot perfectly. A few coats of Tried & True finish really brings out the maple grain. A good buy.

solid quality replacement neck

I am very satisfied with the quality of the wood and the craftsmanship. The peghead is one piece, very beautiful flamed grain pattern, you do not want to cover that with an overlay. The fret slots are cleanly cut, but since the binding is already glued onto the neck, it takes some patience cutting each fret to size and filing down the edges before putting them in. The binding is black plastic, nothing elegant, has some sanding marks that can be polished out. The neck is shaped and ready for final sanding (320 and finer). I put on a low-gloss Danish oil finish, about 6 coats, final sanding with 600 wet or dry. Has a very nice feel to it. The heel is prepared for a pot without a flange, but it is flat (i.e. not rounded). For shaping, you'd better have the right tools, this is not a job to be done by hand. The inlays on the fretboard are cleanly done, as are the position dots in the binding. Double truss rod included. Very nice neck for the price.
